Mod Flowers on a Cake

This cake was really cute when it was done.  I love these mod flowers.  They're so adorable!  This was for a little girl who was turning two.  Since it was a fall birthday, they wanted more orange flowers on it than pink, but the colors on the cake really pop against the white fondant background.  The little white dots add a little something special to it as well.

Baby Shower Cupcakes

Lately it seems like everyone I know is having babies!  There must be something in the water.  That's why I buy bottled water!  LOL!  Anyway, it seems that I throw one party after another (or I'm asked to make the cakes for them!)  I really like making cupcakes--even more than I like making cakes, so I've taken the opportunity to make cupcakes for some of these showers.  Just thought I'd show you a sampling of the cupcakes I've made!  Sometimes its fun to have several different flavors of cupcakes instead of them all being the same.  :)

Baby Carriage Cake

This cake was created for a baby shower.  It was originally going to be for about 40 people, so I planned on doing a 12 inch in diameter cake for the carriage and two 6 inch mini cakes for the wheels.  At the last minute, I was notified that there would only be about 10 people attending the shower.  I decided to do an 8 inch in diameter cake with 4 inch mini cakes.  It came out looking exactly how the customer wanted it to.  :)  It was a chocolate cake with Vanilla Buttercream and Chocolate Frosting for the dark accents.  It turned out really cute!  It was fun because it was kind of a retro design, and I don't get to do all that many retro type cakes.  Bring them on!

Chic Purse Birthday Cake

This cake began with a disaster!  I made the cake, put the fillings in, stacked it and carved it.  I then put it in the refrigerator to chill.  When I opened the refrigerator a while later the whole cake had fallen apart into many peices!  I had to start all over again!  I tweaked the recipe to make it more stable and it turned out really cute!  It was our Strawberry Cake with Blackberry Filling and Cream Cheese Frosting Filling.  It got rave reviews!  It is covered in fondant and all the decorations are edible fondant.

Spring Brunch & Tea Party

I created this cake for a friend's birthday party.  I had been wanting to make this Spring Flower Bouquet Cake for months, so I was very excited to be able to create it!  I also wanted to make these Butterfly Cupcakes, which went perfectly with my theme.  The cake and cupcakes were both our Dark Chocolate Fudge Cake with our Chocolate Peppermint Ganache filling.  The cake and cupcakes are iced in our Classic Buttercream Frosting.  The daisies and leaves are edible gum paste/fondant.  The daffodils are Royal Icing.  The butterflies are made of candy melts and Chocolate frosting.  Anyway, I loved how it all came together!

Pink Zebra Stripes Birthday Cake

This cake was made for a 5 year old girl's birthday party.  She loves zebra stripes and was determined to have them on her birthday cake!  She also wanted something "fluffy" on it, so I gave it a fluffy-looking border around the bottom.  Her mom wanted a Classic White Cake, so I decided to put a little food coloring in some of the layers, so they alternated white and pink--like the outside of the cake!  She wanted a Chocolate Creme Filling.  The little girl was very excited when she saw her cake and her father told me that the cake was a huge hit.  They took it to her school to celebrate her birthday.  He said there wasn't any left!

Giraffe Birthday Cake

This cake was for a baby girl's first birthday.  Her brother was having the jungle theme birthday cake, so they wanted a cake in a similar theme.  They requested a giraffe sitting up on its haunches.  This cake was challenging.  For a cake that has to be carved and stacked so high, I used a Lemon Pound Cake with a Raspberry Filling.  I covered the giraffe in fondant and the details were also fondant.  I made the head and feet out of Rice Krispy Treats.  This cake was also a huge hit at the party.

Scuba Diving Birthday Cake

I made this cake for my husband's birthday.  His favorite hobby is scuba diving, so that's what I went with.  He requesting a Dark Chocolate Fudge Cake with Chocolate Peppermint Ganache.  It was a 3 layer 10 inch cake.  I iced it in Classic Buttercream Frosting.  I dyed piping gel blue and put it on top to create the water-like look.  All decorations are made of gum paste/fondant.  I used the air brush food coloring to color the diver and the shark.  The sand is crushed graham crackers.

Fall Leaves Harvest Birthday Cake

This birthday cake was for an older man whose birthday landed around the Thanksgiving holidays.  They wanted something that they could have with their Thanksgiving dinner.  I made a Pumpkin Pecan Cake with a Pumpkin Pie Filling.  I also iced the cake in Almond Buttercream Frosting, which gave it a little something extra special!  I made leaves out of gum paste/fondant in fall colors to decorate the cake with.  Everyone loved the cake and it got rave reviews!

Ribbons & Bows First Birthday Cake

During the wedding reception, I was asked to make this cake.  They were impressed with the wedding cake and loved the flavor, so they asked if I would make the cake for their little girl's first birthday party.  They chose the Ribbons & Bows theme and chose their colors.  They also decided to have Strawberry Cake and Strawberry Filling.  The pink of the inside really complimented the pink of the frosting!  All decorations are edible (except for the stick holding up the birthday sign.)

Their comments about the cake:
"The cake was beautiful.  We didn't feel like cutting it yesterday.  Everyone admired your work.  Thank you soooooooooooooooo much!  It tasted good too.  Thanks again...."

Daisy Cake

This cake was my final project for my Fondant & Gum Paste class.  I think it was a Dark Chocolate Fudge Cake.  I crumb coated (or dirty frosted) it in Buttercream Frosting and then covered it in light blue fondant.  There are white fondant ribbons on it and it is accented with white daisies.  I used really tiny white daisies on the ribbons and several medium daisies in the middle.  Its actually one of my favorite cakes that I've made.  It reminds me of spring or "Flower Power"!
